They also had important design evolutions.
The headlights migrated to the peaks of the front fenders, still under Ford’s handsome teardrop aerodynamic glass covers.
The hood thrust forward with a low vee-shaped grille with vertical bars that suggested the bow of a fast boat cutting through waves.
The wider and lower grille aided engine cooling and gave the designers the latitude to eliminate the hood side vents.
