1949 Chevrolet 1/2 ton Pickup Truck 235 Inline Six Engine Upgraded T-5 Five-speed Tranny! SOLID STRAIGHT RUNS GREAT! Looking for a rock solid old Advance Design Chevrolet pickup? Here you go! This truck is ready to go with nothing on it needing replacing! Want to head to those Show and Shines in style this summer? This is the one!!!! By far one of the most desireable aspects of this rig is the transmission upgrade.
Anyone that has driven one of these with a stock GM gearbox of this era knows that the shifting can be choppy and primitive at best.
Not the case with this one.
This cool truck has been outfitted with a T-5 transmission from an early ’80s S-10 pickup.
But what’s so cool is that to the casual observer it all looks stock! The truck was retrofitted with an open drive shaft, eliminating the cumbersome torque tube setup.
The third member was swaped out from a ’62 Chevy 1/2 ton axle.
The end result? A silky-smooth shifting ’49 Chevy that drives more like a late model car rather than a choppy farm truck.
It’s a brilliant upgrade.
The upgraded engine is the full oil pressure 235.
It, mated with the smooth T-5, should provide many, many miles of future driving pleasure.
And check out the flame job on the Six’s valve cover! Ka-chow! This truck is a little tough to classify or label because it could be so many things.
It definitely could be called a rat rod for all of it’s cool non-show-car-like attributes.
But then so much of it is original that it kind of gravitates that way as well.
And then one could certainly see that it wouldn’t be that hard to turn it into a show car with a high-end respray and some elbow grease.
So what is it? It’s whatever you want it to be.
And if you hit the Buy-it-Now I’ll even remove the “Bartels” from the Bartels Garage logo and insert your last name or desired name on the door.
This would be great for advertising! This Chevy has an ultra solid body.
There are some paint chips here and there and touch ups, but they only add to the truck’s mistique.
I don’t believe it has an original paint job, but with the wear on it, it can almost pass as an original.
Running boards are rock solid.
Nice plywood has been laid for the floor of the box.
The speedometer / odometer is working and the previous owner believed it did have less than 72,000 miles on it.
The solid condition of the body would seem to make that a possibility, too, but I can’t guarantee it.
The needle on the speedo has dropped off, but you can see the odometer still working when you drive it, and if you replaced the needle you’d have a speedo too.
The electrical has been upgraded to a nice 12 volt system.
It has new brake shoes and rebuilt wheel cylinders all the way around.
It was also recieved an updated dual brake master cylinder.
It has a clear title and Minnesota collector plates.
(if you’re a MN buyer, that means lifetime tabs!) Coca-cola cooler not included.
(or my wife will kill me!) The pictures tell it all.
Tires like new.
Cool custom pinstriping.
Two 12 volt outlets for your phone or sound system.
All lights work.
Heater is included, although not currently installed.
(truck has been stored winters) Poverty hubcaps are genuine ’55 Chevy car hubcaps! And they are oh, so cool! Buyers with feedback scores below 5, please contact me first before bidding so that I can verify your good business intentions.

This truck reminds me of the one my brother Lynn had that he kept out in the horse pasture in Southern California back around 1969. It ran great and never left the ranch. It was used for haling hey and dirt. I used to love to drive it back before I had a drivers licenses out in the pasture. Its what I learned to drive in. Love to see it all stock.
Very nice truck.
