1951 Kustom Ford convertible that you see before you is a historic custom with Barris emblem on the front fender that was beautifully sculpted and expertly executed to make one of the finest looking & driving Shoe Box Ford Customs that exist. To top this off this is a two-seater custom and could be eligible for many of the major car shows across the united states that are creating a class for historic sports customs. For those that don’t realize it sports customs are those custom cars that were made post war by the G.I.’s who had experienced the two-seater sports cars in Europe and started making two-seater sports custom cars in the US.A. (especially California). That lasted about a decade when the Ford Thunderbirds, Corvettes started to replace the sports custom concept with production cars.
This car is not only fantastically executed but has such features as a removable Carson type top and a souped up Ford flathead with a four barrel carburetor and a very early Ford four-speed transmission. The car drives down the road flawlessly and cruises easily at 60-65 mph and is not affected by cross winds on the highway. As a matter of fact it is more comfortable and handles better then many brand new 2011 cars. This is a car that you can take across country and truly enjoy the ride. Even the trunk release is hidden under the gas filler lid. The car bears the George Barris insignias on each side and engine compartment. As of yet we are still searching the old car magazines to find the car pictured in some of the historic magazines. Odometer reads 27,585 mileage, believed to be original but not certified.
Customizers of today would charge $100,000 – 150,000.00 easily to customize your starter project car and you can buy this historic car finished as you see it for pennies on the dollar. We actually drove this car and just loved it.
