This car began its life as a stock T-Code and was turned into a RACE CAR in 1967 by the HAYWARD FORD DRAG CLUB.
This TROPHY WINNER and LOCAL FREMONT DRAG STRIP WINNER has been in CLIMATE CONTROLLED STORAGE on blocks SINCE 1983 WHEN IT WAS PULLED OUT TO RACE THAT SAME YEAR AND SOME ADDITIONAL SAFETY FEATURES ADDED, SUCH AS: SAFETY BELTS AND A DRIVESHAFT SAFETY LOOP! THERE IS ABSOLUTELY NO RUST ANYWHERE AND THE SHEET METAL IS 100% FACTORY ORIGINAL! This car is a LOCAL LEGEND and mainly ran at the FREMONT DRAG STRIP from 1967-1977 by owner/driver MIKE HORTON out of HAYWARD, CALIFORNIA.
The car was recently pulled out of long term storage and was stored correctly preserving this FANTASTIC EX-DRAG RACE CAR! Starting with the engine I was told that the running gear was from a wrecked SHELBY consisting of a HI-PO 289 with a 4-SPEED TOPLOADER and 9″ REAR END.
The car still has the clutch assembly pedals and was converted to an automatic sometime in the 1970′s.
I have not confirmed that this is true or false.
I’m just going off of what I was told.
The engine is VERY HEALTHY with a NICE LOPEY CAM, OLD SCHOOL EDELBROCK STREET MASTER ALUMINIUM INTAKE MANIFOLD TOPPED WITH A HOLLEY CARB AND GOLD ANODIZED VELOCITY STACK! SHELBY TRI-Y HEADERS! ACCEL ELECTRONIC DISTRIBUTOR! NEW ALTERNATOR! BRAND NEW WATER NECK AND BRAND NEW UPPER AND LOWER RADIATOR HOSES! BRAND NEW RADIATOR! OLD SCHOOL FLEX FAN! EXTERNAL TRANS COOLER! A COMPLETE FUEL SYSTEM FLUSH, OIL CHANGE AND COOLANT FLUSH HAVE BEEN PERFORMED! C4 with HIGH STALL SPEED TORQUE CONVERTER and SHIFT KIT! CUSTOM BALANCED DRIVE SHAFT WITH SAFETY LOOP CONNECTED TO A POSI 9″ LOCKED REAR END WITH 4.11 GEARS AND OLD SCHOOL TRACTION BARS.
A COMPLETE BRAKE SYSTEM FLUSH HAS ALSO BEEN PREFORMED WITH ALL THE BRAKES BEING GONE THROUGH.
THIS CAR STOPS GREAT WITH NO ISSUES! This car is running 14″ 4-lug wheels in the front with OLD SCHOOL SEARS GUARDSMAN 14″ BIAS PLY TIRES IN LIKE NEW CONDITION WITH NO FLAT SPOTS AND 95% TREAD LEFT ON THEM.
The rears are 15″ 5-lug wheels with OLD SCHOOL MICKEY THOMPSON CHALLENGER CHEATER SLICKS DESIGNED FOR STOCK AND SUPER STOCK DRAG RACING.
THE TIRES ARE IN EXCELLENT CONDITION WITH NO FLATS SPOTS FROM BEING STORED CORRECTLY! The battery has been re-located to the trunk and is NEW.
The gas tank was removed and BOILED OUT and reinstalled with an ELECTRONIC FUEL PUMP.
IT LOOKS GREAT AND FUNCTIONS EVEN BETTER! The body is SUPER SOLID AND STRAIGHT WITH ZERO RUST ON THE ENTIRE CAR!!! ZERO RUST! THE DOORS CLOSE LIKE A NEW CAR! The car was originally a silver-blue car and was raced the color with various sponsors like HAYWARD FORD and such until the mid 1970′s until the car received a white paint job that STILL LOOKS AMAZING for being 35 years old! The radiator support, shock towers are all WRINKLE FREE! They were NEVER DAMAGED IN ANY ACCIDENT! YOU COULD EAT OFF THE FLOORPAN IT’S SO CLEAN AND THE SAME GOES FOR THE TRUNK! All the chrome and stainless are ORIGINAL TO THE CAR and in EXCELLENT SHAPE! ALL ORIGINAL CAR LITE GLASS in EXCELLENT CONDITION and ORIGINAL TO THE CAR! ALL ORIGINAL DOOR RUBBERS IN EXCELLENT CONDITION! Welded tow bars under front valance that was used to transport this car to and from the drag strip.
The hood is the ORIGINAL STEEL HOOD with a hole cut in the middle and a fiberglass hood scope riveted on.
Plug in unit for the electrical when towing is attached to the radiator support to control the brake lights for when towing.
The ORIGINAL engine wiring harness does not exist so there are currently no headlights or taillights but they can easily be hooked up with a stock engine compartment wiring harness.
There are no windshield wipers.
There is no heater.
The stock gauge cluster was removed and replaced with another.
None of the stock gauges are hooked up.
There is a radio delete plate with TWO SUN GAUGES: OIL PRESSURE AND WATER TEMP.
This car has a CLEAN ORIGINAL DASH with a SUN SUPER TACH MOUNTED TO THE DASH.
ALL AFTERMARKET GAUGES WORK GREAT! The door panels are ORIGINAL! There are two fiberglass racing bucket seats upholstered in an OLD SCHOOL DIAMOND PLEAT PATTERN.
The steering wheel is an OLD SCHOOL GRANT.
OLD SCHOOL B&M QUICK CLICK SHIFTER.
The clutch pedal is still intact if you wanted to turn this car back to original.
BOLT-IN 4-POINT ROLL BAR.
There is a rear seat delete however the STOCK REAR SEAT is in GREAT SHAPE and INCLUDED WITH THE CAR! DEIST SAFETY BELT on drivers seat only.
Manufactured in july 1982.
The dash has an old pit pass from FREMONT DRAG STRIP.
The numbering 6581 is still on the driver and passenger door windows along with MIKE HORTON’S name on the driver side.
The quarter windows have FIRESTONE CENTERLINE E.T.
RACING SERIES PARTICIPANT from 1983.
The rear window has the OLD HAYWARD DRAG CLUB DECAL IN EXCELLENT SHAPE FROM THE 1960′s! I am currently trying to get in touch with the family of MIKE HORTON to obtain trophies, memorabilia and photographs of this car from the 1960′s to the early 1980′s.
THIS CAR IS VERY RELIABLE AND STARTS UP EVERY TIME! IT RUNS AND DRIVES EXCELLENT AND SOUNDS WICKED! I was told this car was a consistant high-12 second car.
This car was last raced in 1983 before being METICULIOUSLY STORED AWAY.
This is a TRUE PIECE OF DRAG RACING HISTORY AND TRUELY A RARE FIND! HERE IS YOUR CHANCE TO OWN A PIECE OF DRAG RACING HISTORY WITH NO RESERVE!!! THE CAR COMES WITH THE TOW BAR AND REAR SEATS! If I obtain any memorabilia and trophies from the family I will gladly pass it on to the new owner.
I REALLY WANT TO SEE THIS CAR GO TO SOMEBODY WHO WILL APPRECIATE AND PRESERVE THIS ONE OR A KIND, HISTORIC RACE CAR! If you plan on altering this car with modern components this is not the car for you.
