Has a bunch of good things going on, but a few changes I would make to give it a more retro look, I am not a fan of the steering wheel at all , for instance.

Rik Hoving who is an expert on custom cars wrote this about this car.
The Sam Barris 1940 Mercury on ebay??? Nah don’t think so. Not sure why the seller even think it is, because this car obviously has 1939 Mercury front sheet metal and a 39 dashboard…. But.. there is a BUT. This car does have some Barris history. In fact this car was constructed from a large portion of the remains of the Barris built Johnny Zaro 1940 Mercury. more info on this on the CUSTOM CAR PHOTO ARCHIVE SITE. http://public.fotki.com/Rikster/11_car_photos/beautiful_custom_cars/barris-1/1939-mercury-conver/
Whatever the case this is a bitchen Car, I love it.

To top this off this is a two-seater custom and could be eligible for many of the major car shows across the united states that are creating a class for historic sports customs. For those that don’t realize it sports customs are those custom cars that were made post war by the G.I.’s who had experienced the two-seater sports cars in Europe and started making two-seater sports custom cars in the US.A. (especially California). That lasted about a decade when the Ford Thunderbirds, Corvettes started to replace the sports custom concept with production cars.

I drove the car for two days and thought it had power steering until I looked closely under the hood and I could not believe it. You can easily turn the wheel with one hand sitting still. The transmission shifts like butter with absolutely no slop or grinding and the clutch is easy on the leg. You won’t find a better driving led sled than this one. She is ready to go and show.
